Habitat for Humanity McGill Campus Chapter focuses both on awareness of homelessness both globally and locally here in Montreal . Every reading week, Habitat McGill takes a week-long trip to a specific destination to build houses. Last year, twelve of us drove to Tarboro , North Carolina where we built houses and friendships and had an overall wonderful experience. We are currently planning another trip this year to York , Pennsylvania . We are also planning a trip with Global Village to build houses in Mexico . We also organize the following activities: volunteering at Old Brewery soup kitchen and women's shelter; fundraisers (such as benefit concerts, bake sales and documentary nights); campouts to show solidarity with the homeless; and presentations by professionals, students and the homeless.
