Become a volunteer!

-Have you thought of building a house for a vacation project?

-Have you planned the serving of meals for a few dozen workers?

-Would you like to develop your skills in public relations or human resources?

-Would you like to help someone in your community?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, we invite you to become a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.

We need talented people to work with us so that we can offer convenient housing to families in Canada and all over the world. Volunteering is an extraordinary way to show your compassion toward others and to actually do something. You don't need to be a contractor or a construction worker... we have opportunities for everyone who really wants to help solve the housing crises that affect many Canadians today.

Interested in having a Habitat home?

Thanks to the work of volunteers, to careful management, and to donations in money and materials, Habitat builds and renovates simple, decent houses in partnership with the chosen families. Habitat homes are sold to the families at no profit, with interest-free mortgages. Homeowners mortgage repayments are used to create a Revolving Fund that allows Habitat for Humanity Montreal to finance the construction of more houses.

Habitat for Humanity does not "give" houses. Apart from making mortgage repayments tailored to their financial means, homeowners must also put in several hundred hours of “sweat equity”, by helping build their house or by participating in various Habitat initiatives.

The three basic family selection criteria are:

  1. The need for simple, decent housing…
We consider the living conditions of the family, i.e. the quality, cost, safety, and size of the apartment lived in at the moment of applying with Habitat for Humanity.
  2. The capacity to pay the mortgage…
We evaluate the family's financial situation and income, as well as its capacity to meet other expenses associated with home ownership.
  3. The family's wish to become homeowners…
The family becomes a Habitat for Humanity partner by agreeing to put in several hundred hours of "sweat equity".

You can start the process of becoming a Habitat family by filling this form (Print, fill then fax or mail)

We will keep your application for 2 years from the date of reception. We will contact you if we build in your borough (Montreal).

Our Stories

I appreciated my day as a volunteer – I learned that there is always something to do on a construction site and ended up working on the roof – I just loved the feeling ... I'm ready for the next time!
Johanne Bélanger , Valleyfield

I got 14 employees from my area together and we worked from 8:00 to 3:30 on a Saturday, except our General Manager, Scott Wood , who worked until 6:30 . He surprised us all, not just by his talent as a builder, but by his endurance. What a great example!!! Everyone worked according to their capacity and personal rhythm; it's amazing what a team can accomplish. I strongly recommend such a teamwork experience. I loved preparing hot dogs on the BBQ and showing off my talents as a cook. We had a lot of fun, and even though we ached all over at the end of the day, we intend to repeat the experience. Christian Leclaire , St-Constant

Enjoyed the day spent on the site - was well greeted and taken care of - well guided and shown what to do. I thought I would go there and give my time, but it turned out to be a great learning experience for someone who knows nothing in construction; felt good about myself and felt useful. Left my name to volunteer on my own time.
